Merry Fishmas & Temporary Salmon Home

This was sent to me from Teeswater Hillcrest Jk/Sk Class they decorated the Classroom door just in time for Christmas, another poster they have in their Classroom.

The week before Christmas the Salmon were gathered from 7 of the Schools & taken for a holiday to the Kincardine Trout Hatchery, there should be about 750 to 800 Alevin in the Aquarium, they will be returned to the Schools the 1st week of School in the New Year. This will make it easier to take care of the Salmon as there are Volunteers doing there daily duties at the Kincardine Rainbow Trout Hatchery 7 days a week any ways. If you look close you will see a big difference in the look & size of the Egg Sacks.

Grade 6 Students Blog From Brookside

We have been watching and watching the fish, almost 24/7. Some have started to swim up towards the top of the fish tank, hitting the glass about halfway up and sliding back down to the bottom of the tank. The other day we had an interview in our classroom, and its going on TV!!!!! Some kids in our class think that having the fish is a great opportunity to learn more about salmon and their natural habitat. They thought it was a great way to tell the people how happy and glad we are to have the fish in our class. It’s a BIG opportunity! Hey, why is a swordfish’s nose 11 inches long??????? Because if it were 12 inches long, it would be a foot!!!! I hope the fish will celebrate Christmas. It would be funny if the fish started singing “Jingle bells”. Our class called one fish Dumdum, because it kept banging its head off the side of the glass. Well, Merry Christmas, to all of you - and the fish!!! Teeswater Sacred Heart School Presentation

Wednesday Dec 19 I was at the Teeswater Sacred Heart School & talked to the Grade 3 to 8 classes in the Gym, I started with who likes to fish & most of the Students hands went up pretty quick, I talked about the Lake Huron Fishing Club our hatcheries, Derby Transporting Adult Trout from Denny's Dam to Hanover & the health of Lake Huron. The invasive Species were brought up & how they are changing the lake & some fishing techniques, I had a few volunteers to help walk through the Students & show them the Samples I had with me, Spiny Water Fleas, Zebra Mussels, Gobies, Alewives, Lamprey also I had Salmon Egg, Milt, Alevin, Salmon Smolts & a 36.92 lb Salmon that really impressed them. Some of the question are what is your biggest fish, what is your favorite kind of fish (Bass), were do you fish & were is the best spot to fish (Lake X) lol, this is a very positive experience & you can talk about the LHFC & your own style of fishing, Schools that have had a Presentation are North Port Al W. & Bob Greason, Goderich Mike Blumhagen, Brookside Mike & I, Wingham Maitland River, Teeswater Hillcrest, Teeswater Sacred Heart Richard, there are still a few more to do but not until the New Year.

LHFC Port Elgin Salmon Hatchery & WSHHS Salmon Hatchery

Walkerton Sacred Heart High School had most of their Alevin die so I took a run up to the Port Elgin Salmon Hatchery to pick up more Alevin, Garry met me at the Hatchery about 9:30 so I could be back at the School by the 10:30 break, I also picked up a few more for the Teeswater Sacred Heart School as they had about 40 die last week, all the other schools seem to be going ok.

LHFC receive's a $100.00 donation X 2

I put a post up on greybruceoutdoors.com the other day & it went like this: Last spring I stopped into the Angling Sports London Ltd store on Adelaide & mentioned LHFC & OS were putting Salmon & Trout in Lake Huron & the guy tying flies said they don't stock fish in Huron any more, so I showed them the LHFC website & we talked for awhile, then I sent them my Blog about the School Salmon Hatchery Program they were very interested, so after expanding the Program this fall I sent another e-mail with the Blog attached & I received a $100.00 cheque today for the LHFC Program & I would like to thank Pat DeVincenzo-Owner/Operator of Angling Sports London Ltd for his generous donation. This is a very nice way to support the local fishing clubs. This was a reply from another long time forum Member: A very nice gesture on Ang/Sprts/Lon,so i got to thinkin,i have been fishin LH/GB tribs for goin on oh about 47 or so yrs,so i have surely seen the best of day's on all trib's.just got home from the Saugeen,a river i have fished for 99.9 % of those forty some odd yrs,now my point is the fish we are getting to-day are 100% the results of the CLUBS like LHFC/OS,and the last few yrs thing's are really picking up and we all know "GOV' don't contribute jack sh$t any more and these club's rely on donation's, so what i did was match Pat DeVencenzo's donation and challenge any or everyone to match or give a little, we all benefit. Dan Tenant My Reply: WOW now we're talking, THANX so much from all of the Members of the LHFC, things are only going to get better, Thanx to the generosity of people around here. Thanx & Tight Lines LHFC School Salmon Hatchery Program Co-ordinator Richard Elliott Jr
